The 1962 Woody Woodpecker cartoon, Room and Bored, appears in a scene in the 1989 Universal Pictures movie Fletch Lives.
In the movie, Fletch is visiting Calculus (Cleavon Little) in his shack. Calculus is watching baseball on TV, but when Fletch mentions Jimmy Lee Farnsworth (R. Lee Ermey), Calculus changes the channel to the Farnsworth Ministries. But between the two channels, the TV stops briefly on a Woody Woodpecker cartoon.
Fletch Lives is a sequel to Fletch, both movies are based on books by Gregory McDonald, and both star Chevy Chase with a third movie Confess, Fletch released in 2022 starring Jon Hamm in the Fletch role. A fourth movie, Fletch Won, has been announced.
