Salmon Loafer is the 21st animated short in the Chilly Willy series. Released theatrically on May 28, 1963, the film was produced by Walter Lantz Productions and distributed by Universal International.
Plot[]
Smedley is the owner of a salmon cannery and has the unfortunate task of trying to deal with a hungry Chilly Willy. Chilly, carrying his fishing pole, walks past the snoozing cannery watchdog and sets himself down on the end of the pier to do some fishing. The dog yells excitedly that the salmon are running. Then, realizing his mistake in telling Chilly, he tries to convince him that it was a false alarm, an April Fool's joke. The dog zips to the cannery and starts the machinery. Soon, Chilly comes along with the empty cans, and he gets a nice big salmon to eat. The machine pastes a label over the dog's eyes, and he jams up the works, ending up under a huge pile of fish. Chilly tries to pick out a good one, but he gets caught at it, and he's promptly kicked out of the cannery. Holding the last can, the dog starts to tell the audience something about salmon. A magnet causes the can to disappear through a hole in the roof. Several more cans follow, and the dog's convinced that he must have canned some flying fish. Chilly finishes eating his salmon and tries for more, but the dog moves the salmon and substitutes an anvil, which the magnet picks up and drops on the dog's head. The magnet takes off with the entire catch, but the dog retrieves it and locks it in the storeroom, swallowing the magnet to make sure that it doesn't happen again. The magnet attracts the hot furnace door to his posterior. Then a meat cleaver chases him, completely wrecking the cannery. The dog tricks the cleaver into the safe, but he gets stuck to the safe himself. As he tries to rescue the salmon from Chilly, the safe knocks the magnet out of him, and he promptly throws it into the ocean. The entire salmon catch follows it, so the dog and Chilly sit down to enjoy a meal of Fillet of Shoe-Sole.
