Mattel, Inc. (/məˈtɛl/ mə-TEL) is an American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company founded in Los Angeles by Harold Matson and the husband-and-wife duo of Ruth and Elliot Handler in January 1945 and headquartered in El Segundo, California. Mattel has a presence in 35 countries and territories; its products are sold in more than 150 countries. Mattel is best known for Barbie, Hot Wheels, Power Wheels, Matchbox, Tyco R/C, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Polly Pocket, Street Sharks, Extreme Dinosaurs, Mighty Max, Max Steel, Shogun Warriors, Monster High, Mega Bloks, Imaginext, Fisher-Price, UNO, Magic 8 Ball, View-Master, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Slime, See n' Say and American Girls.

Mattel's chief competitor is Hasbro.

Mattel did Woody Woodpecker toys like hand puppets and jack-in-the-boxes in the 1960's. Also Mattel was involved in the cancelled 1983 game for Intellivoice.
