In 1991, or more likely before, Woody Woodpecker became the official mascot for "March For Parks". An initative to fund the National Parks and Conservation Association. (NPCA)
One of the ways this was done was through the selling of environmentally themed school supplies merchandise featuring Wood Woodpecker and his pals from New Age Pad & Paper.
