King Klunk is a 1933 animated short subject, produced and directed by Walter Lantz and featuring Pooch the Pup. The cartoon is a parody of the RKO feature King Kong, which premiered six months before this cartoon's release on September 4, 1933 from Universal Pictures.
Plot[]
Pooch and his girlfriend, Poodles, travel to Africa, looking to photograph King Klunk, the largest gorilla in the world. On the continent, a tribe of racist caricatures of Africans dance a ritual and prepare a meal for the fearsome gorilla. King Klunk immediately shows up, spurns his lunch and sees Pooch and Poodles. King Klunk captures her. Pooch inadvertently awakens a giant lizard, which chases him to the ape. Much like in King Kong (1933), the giant lizard and the giant ape fight. Pooch and Poodles eventually bring the King Klunk back to New York where the ape climbs the Broken Arms Hotel, reenacting the final scene of King Kong.
